Farm Credit Branches to Collect Supplies for Hurricane Relief
Farm Credit of the Virginias (FCV), a lending cooperative that serves Virginia, West Virginia and western Maryland, announced that its branch offices will serve as collection sites for supplies to support families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
As farmers and rural communities throughout southwest Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee continue to face power outages, limited broadband and cell phone reception, destructed residences and roadways, and other challenges in the wake of Hurricane Helene, FCV is accepting donations of supplies at its branches offices throughout their service territory to send to those in need.
If you are interested in donating supplies to support hurricane relief efforts, please find the branch nearest you (available here on the FCV website). Branch offices will accept donations October 4-11, 2024, from 9 AM - 4 PM. Please note, cash or monetary donations cannot be accepted.
Donations of new and unopened items are welcome. The most urgently needed items are as follows: Food items needed include peanut butter, canned meals (such as chili or spaghetti), canned meats, canned fruits, bottled water and electrolyte beverages, sweets and other comfort snacks for children, beans, pasta, rice, canned vegetables and any prepackaged foods. Cleanup supplies needed include storage totes, tarps, gas and gas cans, roofing nails, wire brushes, trash bags, brooms and mops, crowbars, pry-bars, hammers, box fans, 5-gallon buckets, and mold and mildew cleaner (no bleach). Personal items needed include baby formula, diapers, baby wipes, coolers, reading glasses, laundry detergent, washboards, mosquito spray, toilet paper, solar charging items and battery banks, blankets, manual can openers and pet food.
FCV is proud to support farmers and rural communities, in good times and bad, and will continue to seek additional opportunities to provide aid in the coming days and weeks.
